EVM to be used in first phase of voting in the municipality

Dhaka, November 20: The schedule of municipal elections will be announced tomorrow, Sunday or Monday. In the first phase, voting will be done through electronic voting machine (EVM) in all the municipalities. Md. Alamgir, senior secretary of the Election Commission (EC), told reporters at his office at the Election Building in Agargaon on Thursday (November 19) afternoon.

He said, "Documents have been submitted for holding the first phase of municipal elections from 28th to 29th. The election schedule will be announced only after the approval of the commission."

The senior secretary of the commission said, "If we want to hold elections by December, we have to announce the schedule of elections by next Monday."

It is learned that in the first phase, documents were presented to the commission for voting in 25 municipalities. It was mentioned that the schedule would be announced by November 25. That's why the documents were presented earlier this week. The EC Secretariat was also ready to announce the schedule on Wednesday. However, it was not done as it was not approved by the commission.

On Wednesday (November 18), EC Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath said the EC Secretariat was ready to announce the schedule for the municipal elections. It will be announced as soon as the documents are approved by the commission. He also said that the schedule of the first phase will be announced on Sunday if not Thursday.
