Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 23 August 2023: Stating that BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's post has become shaky, Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Hasan Mahmud said, "The way he is lying, perhaps his post of Secretary General has become a little shaky. That's why He has increased the level of falsehood."

He made this comment during an exchange of views with journalists in the conference room of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at the Secretariat on Tuesday (August 22). The minister said, "The grenade attack on August 21 was conducted under the direct direction and guidance of Tariq Rahman and with the approval of Khaleda Zia." The grenade attack was carried out with the intention of killing Sheikh Hasina, to wipe out the entire Awami League leadership.

Hasan Mahmud said, "I saw in the newspaper that Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made such a blatant lie about the grenade attack and he said why did he do it in a place other than the place where permission was given?" In fact we sought permission to hold a rally in Muktangan that day, but we were not given permission to hold a rally in Muktangan. The previous night we were asked to gather in front of the party office. At the last minute we were given verbal permission to rally in front of the party office. That's why we left Muktangan and held a rally in front of the party office.

He said that the permission to hold the assembly in Muktangan was not given to facilitate the grenade attack. Because the advantage of throwing grenades in the open is not like that. Buildings around our party office, grenades can be thrown from those buildings. That is why it is asked to hold a rally there. Always when we rally in front of the party office there is plainclothes or plainclothes police on the building, but there was none that day. On August 21 there was no police on guard. Instead of guarding the police, the BNP government Tariq Rahman confirmed the presence of militants there and the grenades were launched from there.'

He also said, "Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir lied about this." I found it hard to believe that a man like Mirza Fakhrul could tell such a lie. Since he is the secretary general of BNP, I want to say with respect to him that I have never seen such a disgusting, ugly, hideous, disgusting lying politician in Bangladesh politics.
