Fatal explosion at oxygen plant in Sitakunda: 6 killed

Dhaka: Six people were killed in a terrible explosion at Seema Oxygen Plant in Kadmarsulpur area of Sitakunda area in Bangladesh's Chittagong city.

At least 22 people injured in this incident have been admitted to Chittagong Medical College (CHMEC) Hospital.

Five of the dead have been identified. They are Shamsul Islam, Faridul Alam, Ratan, Abdul Quader, Salauddin.

ASI Alauddin Talukder of Chamek Hospital police outpost said this at 8:50 pm on Saturday (March 4). Earlier, there was an explosion at the plant at 4:55 pm. On receiving the information, 8 units of fire service started working to control the fire.

Locals said that suddenly there was a loud explosion. At this time, the area of several kilometers was shaken. Nearby houses and businesses were shaken. Locals could hear the explosion from two kilometers away. Many adjacent buildings and structures have broken glass. The plant has been reduced to rubble. Also some hands and some legs were damaged.

The explosion took place at the Seema Oxygen Oxyco plant in Kadmarsul area of Sitakunda at 4:40 pm on Saturday (March 4). Six people have died so far. 17 burnt people have been admitted to the hospital. After the accident, the army, fire service, RAB and police took part in the rescue operation. Locals heard the explosion from two kilometers away.

Additional Superintendent of Police of Industrial Police Nadira Noor said, "Oxygen is bottled at Seema Oxygen Oxyco factory. Vessels are cut with the help of this oxygen. An accident occurred at the main factory. How the accident happened will be known after the investigation.

It has been seen on the ground that thousands of oxygen cylinders are scattered in the accident factory. The magnitude of the explosion was so intense that several nearby vehicles were damaged by pieces of iron from the plant flying from the accident site.
