Father Timm commemorated in Bangladesh

Dhaka, October 24: A commemorative meeting was held at the central office of Caritas Bangladesh in the capital's Shantibagh on Friday in memory of Father Timm, a true friend of the late Bangladesh. Father Timm, who had worked for more than six decades in the field of education and humanitarian service in Bangladesh, died on September 11 at the Holy Cross House in South Bend, Indiana, USA.

He was one of the founders of Notre Dame College in Dhaka.

Science education was started in this famous college of Bangladesh by him.

He has also served as the principal of this college.

At the commemoration ceremony, Patrick de Rosario, the highest religious leader of the Christian community in Bangladesh, said, "I heard that Father Timm is dead. Even after his death, I think he is alive in Bangladesh. He lives in our thoughts. He lives in the social sciences, justice, human rights work, relief work and charity work. He will live as a dear friend and worker."

Member of Parliament Aroma Dutt said that Father Timm has worked for the establishment of human rights in Bangladesh. He founded NGOs to work for the establishment of marginalised communities, the dignity and rights of women and children. Through this he has worked for the welfare of the people.

Mentioning that Father Timm has directly cooperated with the freedom fighters and freedom-loving people, she said, "Even after the liberation war, various activities were carried out to alleviate the misery of the marginalized people of this country."

Notre Dame College Vice-Chancellor Father Patrick Gaffney said the "Father Timm has worked for humanity. All his life he has devoted himself to the welfare of the people. Father Tim will always live among us with faith, hope and love for people."

Father Timm, the sixth principal of Notre Dame College, established a science club at the college in 1955.

He is also the founder of the college's Debating Club and Notre Dame College Adventure Club.

Simultaneously an academician, zoologist and activist in social development activities, his important contribution in the establishment of various non-governmental development organizations and this genuine friend of Bangladesh worked to create world public opinion in favor of the liberation war in 1971.

Father Timm was born on March 2, 1923 in Indiana, USA. He came to Bangladesh in 1952. For more than six and a half decades, Father Team has played a special role in the development of education, poverty alleviation and improvement of people's living standards in Bangladesh.
