Dhaka, April 15: A fire broke out in the building of New Super Market (South) in the capital's New Market on Saturday (April 15) at 5:40 am. After about 3 and a half hours, the fire came under control at 9:10 am.

Twenty-eight units of fire service rushed to the news. The first unit of the fire service reached the spot at 5:43 p.m. to control the fire. Later, 18 units reached the spot one by one and started working to control the fire. Later another 10 units joined.

Ershad Hossain, the officer in charge of the control room of the fire service, said that 28 units of the fire service worked to control the fire in the New Super Market adjacent to the New Market in the capital. Initially, the fire service official could not tell the cause of the fire and the amount of damage.

Meanwhile, teams from the Army, Navy and Air Force joined in to assist the fire service. Besides, several teams of RAB and 12 platoon BGB have arrived at the scene.

Director General of Fire Service and Civil Defense Department Brigadier General Md Main Uddin said that it was brought under control at 9:10 am. He said, now the fire extinguishing and dumping work is going on.

He said this at a briefing at the accident site around 10 am on Saturday.
