Dhaka, June 8: A fishing cat has been rescued from a farmer's barn at Patharghata in Barguna district. It was apprehended on Tuesday (June 7) afternoon while attacking cattle at Chan Mia's barn in Kalmegha area of Patharghata. Later it was released in Haringhata forest.

Abul Kalam, Range Officer, Patharghata Forest Department, said at noon on Wednesday (June 7) that the tiger was rescued from the barn of a man named Chan Mia around 11am on Tuesday. After that he became physically weak and was treated at the Upazila Livestock Department. After the meal and treatment, the feline was released in Patharghata Haringhata forest today.

According to the locals, Mia wanted to go to the barn after realizing that the cows were running in the barn at midnight on Tuesday. He went there and saw that the cat had attacked the cow. It was later captured with the help of locals.

Saiful Islam, who was injured while trying to catch the fishing cat, said that the locals were restless after sensing the feline's presence in the area for two months. The cat has killed many domestic animals, including ducks, chickens, cows, goats and pigeons. Everyone was terrified. Today, with great difficulty, I caught the 7-foot-long fishing cat with a mosquito net. At that time, four people, including me, were injured in the attack.
