Begum Rokeya Medal Five women receive medals on Rokeya Day
Dhaka, December 9: Begum Rokeya Padak-2021 has been awarded to five prominent women for their outstanding contribution in women's empowerment and social development. Medals and certificates were handed over to them at a function held at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Begum Rokeya Day on Thursday (December 9). The Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs organized the event on the occasion of 'Begum Rokeya Day'.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was the chief guest on the occasion. She joined the event virtually from Ganobhaban. State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatun Nesa Indira presented the medal to them on behalf of the Prime Minister.
The recipients are Prof Hasina Zakaria Bela, Archana Biswas, Shamsunnahar Rahman Paran (posthumous), Dr Zinat Huda and Dr Saria Sultana.
Each of the medalists received a 18 carat gold medal weighing 25 grams, along with a replica and certificate of honour. Besides, they were given a check of Tk 4,00,000.
Begum Rokeya Day is celebrated on December 9 every year on the birth and death anniversary of Begum Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain, a pioneer of women's rights in the subcontinent.
