Former Comilla mayor Sakku resigns from BNP

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, May 20: Monirul Haque Sakku has resigned from the post of Joint General Secretary of Comilla South District BNP.

He has filed nomination papers for the post of mayor as an independent candidate in the upcoming Comilla City Corporation elections. Prior to that, he had served as Comilla City Corporation Mayor twice in a row.

Monirul Haque Sakku's personal assistant Md. Kabir Hossain Majumder submitted Sakku's resignation letter to Comilla South District BNP president Begum Rabeya Chowdhury at her residence on Thursday (May 19) afternoon. Later at around 7 pm, Kabir Hossain Majumdar confirmed the resignation of Sakku.

He said that out of respect for the central decision of BNP, Monirul Haque Sakku has voluntarily resigned from the post of joint general secretary of Comilla South District BNP. I personally handed over the resignation letter to Rabia Chowdhury.

Kabir Hossain Majumder further said that a copy of the resignation letter had been sent to the BNP secretary general and acting chairman.

Meanwhile, the Returning Officer declared a total of 154 candidates, including six mayoral candidates, valid during the scrutiny of nomination papers for the Comilla City Corporation election on Thursday. This nomination verification and selection process was held in the District Shilpakala Academy.
