Own Correspondent, Dhaka, April 26: Bangladesh and Denmark on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on 'Sustainable and Green Framework Engagement' aimed at tackling global challenges such as climate change and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The MoU was signed by Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen and Danish Development and Cooperation Minister Flemming Moller Mortensen at a programme held at a hotel in the capital. Visiting Crown Princess of Denmark, Mary Elizabeth Donaldson, was also present at the signing ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Momen said that this framework engagement will serve as an expression of goodwill between Bangladesh and Denmark. It will then be implemented through an action plan with the concerned government agencies.

"This move indicates the protection of the common interests of our two countries in further diversifying our bilateral relations," he said.

The Foreign Minister said that the Memorandum of Understanding will build a unity through Bangladesh's own adaptation strategy, Danish innovation and exchange of experience and information of technological experts in tackling climate change.

The Danish Minister for Development and Cooperation said that Denmark and Bangladesh have a strong position in implementing the global climate agenda and there is active communication between them in this regard.

"The signing of this Green Framework document today proves that we are ready to implement the commitments we made in the Paris Agreement on Climate Change," he said.

A joint statement issued after the signing ceremony said that the Memorandum of Understanding highlighted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, adapting and mitigating climate change, environmental damage and biodiversity loss.

It also said that Denmark was the first country to share knowledge and technology with Bangladesh in a framework aimed at building a sustainable and green future.

Following the signing ceremony, the Danish Minister and Dr. Momen discussed various issues related to development cooperation between the two countries.
