France has always been a reliable partner of Bangladesh: PM

Dhaka, April 4: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed satisfaction over the growing relationship between Bangladesh and France, saying it has further expanded towards a strategic partnership.

She said, "France has always been a reliable partner of Bangladesh. The relationship has further expanded towards a strategic partnership guided by our common goal of sustainable development."

Sheikh Hasina made this comment during a courtesy meeting with the Prime Minister at Ganabhaban on Monday, French Ambassador to Bangladesh Marie Masdupoui.

After the meeting, Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed the journalists. Karim said, the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over the growing relations between the two countries, including cooperation in various fields, following the path established by Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

In the meeting, the French ambassador expressed his country's interest in strengthening cooperation with Bangladesh, especially in the aviation and space sectors.

She said, they are always interested in working with Bangladesh on maritime security.

Mary Masdupui also expressed her country's interest in building Bangladesh's second satellite. The climate change issue was discussed in detail in the meeting.

Regarding climate, the ambassador of France said that her country is working on climate issues and they can exchange experience with Bangladesh.

Regarding the Rohingya crisis, the Prime Minister said that the forcibly displaced citizens of Myanmar who have taken shelter in Cox's Bazar should go back to their own country, because they have become a burden for Bangladesh.

Referring to the construction of an international standard airport in Cox's Bazar, Sheikh Hasina said her government is transforming the airport into an international hub for refueling and connecting Asia and Europe.

The Prime Minister recalled her visit to France in November 2021 and fruitful discussions with the French President. She thanked the French President for inviting him to attend the Climate Conference to be held in Paris on June 22-23.
