Freight train derailed in Sirajganj, rail communication stopped

Dhaka, May 5: Two carriages of the freight train derailed at Ullapara in Sirajganj during line change. The north-south railway connection with the capital Dhaka is closed. The incident took place at Ullapara station area around 2 pm on Friday. No damage was reported.

Sirajganj Railway Sub-Assistant Engineer Mohammad Ahsan confirmed the derailment of two coaches of the train.

Divisional Engineer-2 Birbal Mondal of Western Railway said that a freight train was being diverted in Ullapara station area. Meanwhile, two coaches of the train derailed. But no damage was done. Since the incident, rail communication between North Bengal and Dhaka has been stopped. Arrangements are being made to move the train quickly.

Some passengers at Ullapara station said they were waiting to go to Dhaka. They suffered because the train carriage suddenly derailed. Till now the train line is not normal.

Ullapara Railway Station Master Ferdous Hasan said, four wheels of two carriages of the freight train derailed. Western Railway Division has been informed to recover the derailed coach. Train communication will be activated only when the carriage is recovered.
