French President Emmanuel Macron to visit Dhaka

Dhaka, August 31: French President Emmanuel Macron will be visiting Bangladesh after the G-20 conference held in New Delhi, India. Diplomatic sources confirmed his visit to Dhaka.

According to sources, the French President will visit Bangladesh on September 11. He will visit on the invitation of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Before this, the then French President Francois Mitterrand visited Bangladesh last in 1990. After that, no other president of the country came to Bangladesh. As a result, it is going to be the visit of a French president to Bangladesh after 1990.

However, after a discussion program at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Wednesday (August 30), Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen told reporters about the French President's visit to Bangladesh that it is not yet confirmed. Many are coming to the G20. On that occasion, they took an initiative to come to our country. We welcome it. The Prime Minister has invited the President of France to come to our country.

When asked about the discussion during the French President's visit, Momen said, "We have many issues. Such as Rohingya, women empowerment, investment and trade promotion. At the same time there is a regular immigration issue. These are our normal issues. Climate is a big issue, especially with France. France plays a leadership role in this regard. We want to tell him, take initiative to fund the loss and damage issue, he will take initiative to collect money."

According to information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina went on a bilateral visit to Paris in November 2021. At that time, the head of government invited the French president to visit Bangladesh.

It is known that the President of France will hold a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Bangladesh during his visit to Dhaka. Besides, he will pay tribute to Bangabandhu's portrait at Dhanmondi number 32 and visit the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum.
