Own Correspondent, Dhaka, August 13: Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud has commented that the fuel prices have been increased in the country to prevent its smuggling to India.

He made this comment at a condolence meeting in Rajshahi's Mohanpur on Friday (August 12). This funeral was organized on the occasion of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's 47th martyrdom anniversary and National Mourning Day at Mohanpur Government High School grounds. Awami League joint general secretary was the chief guest at the programme.

The information minister said, "Fuel prices were low in our country. As many trucks as came from West Bengal, they filled with fuel. Fuel was being smuggled out of our country. We have adjusted the price and made it equal to West Bengal. But this situation will not last long."

He said, "Due to the Russia-Ukraine war, a crisis is going on in the whole world. Fuel prices have increased by 100 percent across the world. The fuel price of 65-70 dollars has become 170 dollars. $4 LNG gas now has to be bought at $42. The price has increased tenfold."

He also said that the price of fuel in the neighboring country India increased six months ago. We have equalized it by increasing the price. If the price of fuel falls in the world market, the price of oil in our country will also be reduced. The minister also commented that there is no opportunity to mislead the people about it.

Referring to the ongoing load shedding situation in the country, the information minister said that Sheikh Hasina has delivered electricity to every house. However, load shedding is currently taking place due to the global situation. However, the load shedding problem will be resolved by November-December.
