Germany to support Rohingya repatriation

Dhaka, September 24: Germany will stand by the Bangladesh government on the repatriation of displaced Rohingyas to Myanmar. German Ambassador to Dhaka Achim Troster made the remarks during a courtesy call on Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mohammad Tajul Islam on Thursday (September 23) afternoon.

After the meeting, the local government minister told reporters that the German government believes that Bangladesh has set an example of humanity in the world by sheltering Rohingyas who have been killed, tortured and subjected to violence in Arakan State, Myanmar. The country has expressed its gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for this. He also said that they have always expressed their commitment to play a role in resolving this issue by the side of the Bangladesh government in garnering public opinion.

Thanking the German government for its cooperation in Sayedabad Water Treatment Plant Phase-3, the Local Government Minister sought their cooperation in any future development projects that are beneficial to the people.

Appreciating the unprecedented achievements of the country under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in all fields including infrastructural, food, health, education, social and economic, the Ambassador said the German government has always been and will be by the side of Bangladesh. Achim Troster also said that Germany's maximum cooperation in the development sector of Bangladesh will continue.

During the meeting, the Minister and the German Ambassador discussed various issues of mutual interest. During the meeting, Dhaka WASA Managing Director Taksim A Khan, Additional Secretary to the Local Government Department Maran Kumar Chakraborty and Muhammad Ibrahim and Joint Secretary Mohammad Noor Alam Siddiqui were present.
