Dhaka, 15 October 2023: Mid-day meal for government primary school students will be launched as a pilot project across the country from next November, said State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Zakir Hossain, MP.

After inaugurating the passport building built on the 25th century land next to the Kurigram bus terminal on Saturday afternoon, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md. Zakir Hossain MP said this.

Meanwhile, the state minister also said that there is a possibility of approval for the mid-day meal in the Eknek meeting in October. If approved, the mid-day meal will start this month, if not, in November.

"The allocation of mid day meal is huge. We will launch it in piloting form. Although there was a decision to give pre-cooked food, it was ruled out. Now we will provide nutritious food like biscuits, milk and eggs to the students. This will ensure 30% nutrition in children's schools," he said.

He said, it has not yet been possible to start as one shift in all schools across the country. The school needs 8 classrooms for one shift. Already, the shortage of classrooms in 90% schools across the country has been eliminated by constructing new buildings. There are still 10 parts left. Once it is filled, a shift will be introduced, he said.

It is reported that all types of passport and immigration services will be available at this passport office in a three-storied building (about 8 thousand square feet) at a cost of 3 crore 72 lakh taka. It was also informed that the cost of this project was Rs. ahead of schedule and saving 92 lakh 58 thousand 200 hundred taka.
