Govt will buy 21 lakh tons of fuel oil from six countries

Dhaka, January 12: The government has decided to purchase 21 lakh metric tons of fuel oil from six countries through Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC). Out of this, 20 lakh 40 thousand tons of refined fuel oil and 60,000 tons of diesel. It will cost Tk 18,760 crore 56 lakh to buy this oil.

The Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement has approved the purchase of oil from India, Indonesia, UAE, China, Malaysia, and Thailand. This oil will be purchased through BPC under the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal chaired the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement on Wednesday (January 11). After the meeting, the decision of the meeting was announced by the Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division, Syed Mahbub Khan.

Syed Mahbub Khan said that 60 thousand metric tons of diesel has been approved to be imported from India's Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) through BPC. An expenditure of Tk 545 crore 4 lakh has been approved to import this oil. This diesel will be imported between January and December this year.

In the meeting, Syed Mahbub Khan said that approval was given to import 2 million 40 thousand tons of refined fuel oil from seven state-owned companies in India, Indonesia, United Arab Emirates, China, Malaysia and Thailand.

He said, through BPC, approval has been given to import 20 lakh 40,000 metric tons of refined fuel oil from Indonesia's BSP, UAE's ENOC, India's IOCL, China's PettoChina, Malaysia's PTLCL, Thailand's PTTT and China's Unipec. An expenditure of 18 thousand 215 crore 52 lakh taka has been approved to import refined fuel oil. This fuel oil will be purchased between January and June this year.
