Habibur Rahman gets appointed as DMP Commissioner

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 20 September 2023: Additional IGP Habibur Rahman has been appointed Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). He is currently the Tourist Police Chief. He has been given this responsibility in a notification of the Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday, September 20. Sirajam Munira, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, signed the notification on the orders of the President.

The notification directed the order to come into effect immediately. Current DMP Khandkar Ghulam Fak's term ends on October 2. In that case, the new commissioner Habibur Rahman will join on October 3.

According to tradition, this year's DMP commissioner is supposed to be from the 15th BCS batch in terms of seniority. However, this is the first time in the history of DMP that the tradition of seniority has been broken. Habibur Rahman BCS 17th batch police officer. He has held important duties as DC of DMP HQ, SP of Dhaka District, DIG of Dhaka Range and Police HQ.

Habibur Rahman was born in Chandra Dighlia village of Gopalganj in 1967. He has received Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) three times and Rashtrapati Police Medal (PPM) twice in recognition of honesty, bravery and efficiency at work. Apart from professional work, this police officer is involved in various social activities including writing. In 2018, Habibur Rahman edited a book highlighting the role of the police in the Great Liberation War. Which he called "the first resistance in the liberation war".

Apart from the Bede community, this police officer has also worked with sex workers and third gender people in Rajbari's Daulatdia. He also started working for the children of Vishnakpalli in Daulatdia, he established a foundation called Uttaran Foundation there. He also played a role in building the Police Liberation War Museum at Telecom Bhavan in Rajarbagh Police Lines. He is also a sports organizer, working with Kabaddi in the country.
