Dhaka, July 5: The National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19 has recommended extending the ongoing hard lockdown by one more week.

On Sunday (July 4) night, committee member Professor M Iqbal Arslan said, "We had earlier suggested a lockdown of at least two weeks to control the coronavirus situation. In the recommendation we said that to get the benefits against the virus, three weeks lockdown is ideal, otherwise at least two weeks lockdown should be imposed."

Earlier, the government had announced a strict lockdown from 6 am on July 1 till 11:59 pm on July 7. A notification was issued by the cabinet department on June 30.

Apart from the emergency services, government and private offices, motor vehicles and shopping malls are closed. However, even if the factories remain operational, no public gathering can be organized at this time.

The army is on the ground with other law enforcement agencies to enforce the restrictions.
