Hasan Foez Siddique sworn in as new Chief Justice of Bangladesh

Own representative, Dhaka, January 1: The new Chief Justice of Bangladesh, Hasan Foez Siddique, has been sworn in. President Abdul Hamid administered the oath to Siddique as the 23rd Chief Justice of the country at Bangabhaban Darbar Hall at 4:00 pm on Friday (December 31). Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended the event.

Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam conducted the event. Later, the newly appointed Chief Justice signed the affidavit as per protocols.

Shortly before the swearing-in ceremony, the new Chief Justice entered the Darbar Hall wearing prescribed attire and wig. Shortly afterwards, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina entered the hall together.

Earlier on Thursday, the government appointed Hasan Foez Siddique, the second senior justice of the Appellate Division, as the 23rd Chief Justice of the country. On the same day, the Law and Justice Department of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs issued a notification in this regard.

According to the notification, the President appointed Justice Hasan Foez Siddique as the Chief Justice of Bangladesh under the powers conferred by Article 95(1) of the Constitution of Bangladesh.

Hasan Foez Siddique was appointed as the Justice of the Appellate Division on March 28, 2013. He passed SSC from Khoksa Janipur Pilot High School in 1972 and ISC from Government PC College in Bagerbat in 1974. After completing his BA from Satkhira Government College, he passed MA from Dhaka University's Political Science Department.

After passing LLB from Dhanmondi Law College, Siddique joined the Dhaka Judge's Court in 1981. He joined the High Court Division and Appellate Division as lawyer in 1983 and 1988 respectively.

He was appointed as Additional Justice at the High Court in 2001. In 2009, he wass appointed as a permanent Justice in the High Court Division.

Siddique has been serving as the Chairman of Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission since April 30, 2015.
