Hasina-Modi inaugurate 3 development projects virtually

Own Correspondence, Dhaka, 2 November 2023: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi jointly inaugurated three development projects. These projects were inaugurated virtually on Wednesday, November 1 at 11:30 am. Sheikh Hasina joined virtually from Ganobhaban.

Narendra Modi joined from New Delhi. The three projects are: Akhaura-Agartala Cross Border Rail Link, Khulna-Mongla Port Rail Line and Second Unit of Maitri Super Thermal Power Plant.

The Indian government said on Tuesday (Oct 31) that the projects, implemented with India's assistance, will strengthen connectivity and energy security in the region. The Akhaura-Agartala cross-border rail link project has been implemented under the grant assistance of Tk 392.52 crore from the Government of India. The opening of the railway will increase trade between India and Bangladesh. It is known that after the inauguration, cargo trains will be run initially and passenger trains will be run on this route later.

The Khulna-Mongla Port Rail Line project has been implemented at a cost of US$ 388.92 million under the concessional line of credit of the Government of India. Through this, Bangladesh's second largest port Mongla has been connected to the broad gauge rail network. Maitri Super Thermal Power Project A 1,320 MW Super Thermal Power Plant (MSTPP) project located at Rampal in Khulna Division of Bangladesh was implemented under the Indian loan assistance of 1.6 billion USD.
