Hasina-Modi make 39-point joint declaration during virtual summit

Dhaka, December 18: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have made a 39-point joint declaration at the end of a virtual summit. This joint declaration was issued by Bangladesh and India.

Notable announcements are:

1. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a virtual summit on 17 December. The two sides discussed in detail all aspects of bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and international issues.

2. Both the Prime Ministers expressed satisfaction over the current state of bilateral relations based on the bonds of history, culture, language and other identities. They emphasized that the Bangladesh-India relationship is built on brotherhood and a reflection of an all-encompassing partnership of sovereignty, equality, trust and understanding, which transcends strategic partnership. They paid deep homage to the martyrs, freedom fighters and Indian soldiers of the liberation war of Bangladesh for the great sacrifice of 1971. They pledged to uphold and safeguard the cherished values ​​of democracy and equality in line with the aspirations of the people of the two friendly countries.

3. The two leaders expressed satisfaction over the progress of various decisions taken during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to Delhi in October 2019. Both sides recalled the successful organization of the sixth meeting of the Joint Consultative Commission held in September 2020.

4. The two sides exchanged views on the ongoing Covid-19 epidemic situation in their respective countries and expressed satisfaction over the way in which the two countries have established sustainable relations even in the ongoing crisis. Reiterating that Bangladesh has the highest priority under India's 'Neighbor First' policy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured that the vaccine would be delivered to Bangladesh as soon as it is manufactured in India. Both leaders noted the ongoing bilateral cooperation between the private sector in this regard.

5. India has also offered medical and partnership cooperation in vaccine production. Bangladesh has praised India's capacity building course for medical professionals in Bengali.

6. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina deeply appreciated India's sincerity in organizing various events on the occasion of the ongoing 'Mujib Year'. On the occasion of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the two Prime Ministers jointly unveiled a commemorative stamp issued by the Government of India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked the Government of Bangladesh for unveiling a stamp in honor of Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of Gandhiji's 150th birth anniversary in September 2020.
