Hasina's Maldives visit: Prime Minister emphasizes on sharing mutual experience

Own representative, Dhaka, 25 December: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, visiting the Maldives currently, has said that no country can exist and develop in isolation. She said that the Covid-19 pandemic has taught everyone that each country is interdependent.

She said that in the interest of a developed, secure and prosperous world, all countries need to share their experiences.

Addressing the Maldivian Parliament on Thursday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called upon the country's public and private sectors to be Bangladesh's development partners for mutual benefit.

The Prime Minister said, "I hope our (Bangladesh-Maldives) warm and friendly relations will be further consolidated. Bangladesh is moving forward with potential and prosperity. I urge you to join us in the development journey for the next 50 years for the mutual benefit of both the public and private sectors in the Maldives. We reiterate the principle of cooperation with our fraternal neighbors in South Asia, as the father of our nation has said."

Earlier, Sheikh Hasina was welcomed by Maldivian Speaker Mohammad Nasheed and Deputy Speaker in the Maldives National Assembly. The Prime Minister later signed the visitor's book and had a meeting with the Speaker of the Maldivian Parliament.

In his speech, Speaker Mohammad Nasheed lauded the role of Sheikh Hasina in leading the developing countries in tackling the negative effects of climate change in the global context.

In her address to the Parliament, Sheikh Hasina further said, "We are particularly encouraged to witness the development journey of the Maldives, the successful transition from LDC to a middle-income country."

"We hope that Bangladesh and Maldives will make use of the complements. I am deeply honored to have the opportunity to address the distinguished members of the Majlis at this residence, the heart of democracy, politics and policy in this beautiful country," she added.

Sheikh Hasina said, "I am happy to be here in the Parliament of a fraternal country, with which we share our historical connections, multiple similarities, similar challenges and a common vision of prosperity."
