Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport: Check out major facilities now available at the third terminal

Dhaka, 8 October 2023 : The third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka has been inaugurated with the promise of world class facilities and passenger services.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated this terminal on Saturday.

The third terminal construction project of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is one of the priority mega projects of the government. There are state-of-the-art facilities for passengers including e-gate, touchless checking, self-immigration. Apart from this, wide apron, huge car parking system, sufficient luggage belt will give new experience to the passengers.

However, this service will be available at the end of 2024. Now that the third terminal has been inaugurated, many ancillary works including installation of equipment are left, which will take another year to complete, according to the Civil Aviation Authority (BABICHAK).

In 2017, the government took up the third terminal construction project of Shahjalal Airport. However, the construction work started on December 28, 2019.

The cost of this has been estimated at about 21 thousand 398 crores. Out of this, Japanese cooperation agency JICA is giving Tk 16 thousand 141 crore as loan. Bangladesh government is giving the rest of the money. Japan's Mitsubishi and Fujita and South Korea's Samsung have built the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on the model of Singapore's Changi Airport.

Now 29 aircraft can be accommodated in the apron of Terminal-1 and Terminal-2 of Shahjalal Airport. If the third terminal with an area of 5 lakh 42 thousand square meters is opened, 8-10 more aircrafts can be accommodated on its apron. 37 aircraft can be parked together. There will be 26 boarding bridges. Of these, 12 will be launched in October. There will be a total of 115 check-in counters (including 15 self-service check-in counters) for departures.

Besides, there will be 66 exit immigration counters including 10 automatic passport control counters.

There will be a total of 59 counters including five automated check-in counters at arrivals.

The current terminal has eight baggage belts. Terminal 3 will have 16 baggage belts for arriving passengers.

There will be four separate belts for overweight baggage. Construction of multi-storey car parking with capacity of 1 thousand 44 cars is in progress.
