Heavy rainfall predicted in four divisions

Dhaka, August 27: The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions.

It said heavy (44 to 88 mm) to very heavy (more than 89 mm) rains will fall in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions in the next 24 hours from 8:00 pm on Thursday due to the presence of monsoon axis in the northern part of Bangladesh and simultaneous active monsoon.

Meteorologist Md. Aftab Uddin said, "Monsoon winds are active over Bangladesh and are moderate to strong in the North Bay."

He said Cox's Bazar received the heaviest rainfall- 178 mm- in the 24 hours from 6:00 pm on Wednesday to 6:00 pm on Thursday. In comparison, Dhaka received 11 mm of rains.

Apart from the two, Hatia (116 mm), Ishwardi (163 mm), Tentulia (113 mm) and Chuadanga (99 mm) also received heavy rainfall during the period. The highest temperature in the country on Thursday was in Mongla, measuring 34.5 degrees Celsius.
