Dhaka, March 31: Hefazat-e-Islam carried out the violence to tarnish the golden jubilee of independence, said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Benazir Ahmed.

The IGP made the remarks while visiting injured policemen at the CMH on Wednesday (March 31) morning.

He said cases have been filed against those who carried out the attacks and violence. Action will also be taken against those who directed the attack. The IGP also said that no case was filed against the top leaders of Hefazat to avoid controversy.

Responding to a question from reporters, the IGP said it was not a matter of naming Hefazat leaders in the case, it was a matter of naming the attackers. The names of the directors will also come out in the investigation. After that appropriate action will be taken.

It may be mentioned that cases have been filed against about 20,000 people, including 300 identified persons, in at least 34 cases of multiple violent protests by Hefazat-e-Islam in several districts of the country. However, the top leaders of Hefazat were not accused in any case.
