Own Correspondent, Dhaka, June 18: It has been raining intermittently in Chittagong all day on Friday. The Patenga Meteorological Office said that 49 mm of rain fell in Chittagong in the last 24 hours till 9 pm on Friday. This has led to waterlogging in Chawkbazar, Bakalia, Katalganj and Agrabad CDA residential areas of Chittagong after evening. In addition, the district administration has been miking to evacuate the people living in the hill tracts at risk as the rains continue.

Sajal Khan, a bank official, said the rains suddenly increased after evening. KB Aman Road in Chawkbazar has been waterlogged with almost knee-deep water. It had to go to the destination with extra fare. Kaiser Uddin, a resident of Katalganj area, said that work is underway to reduce waterlogging in Chittagong. But even then we are not getting rid of waterlogging. As soon as it rains, our suffering increases.

Sheikh Harun Ur Rashid, an official of the Patenga Meteorological Office in Chittagong, said 49.2 mm of rain had fallen in Chittagong in the last 24 hours till 9 pm. Heavy rains may continue in Chittagong from tonight to Saturday.

According to the Chittagong district administration, miking is being done to evacuate those living in the hills at risk as it has been raining all day. Miking has been done since noon.

Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Kattli Circle of Chittagong city Md. Omar Farooq told Dhaka Post that people, who live in the hills at risk, were being asked to evacuate and move to safer places. As many as 18 shelters have been opened in Chittagong. People can live in these places. I told them not to take risks in the mountains but to come to the shelter. However, no one came to the shelter till 9 pm.
