Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 28 March 2024: Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has said that after the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975, the history of his declaration of independence was distorted.

She said, Bangabandhu's declaration of independence was spread through wireless and the party people carried it to all parts of the country. But after his assassination, history was distorted.

The Prime Minister said that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu, before his arrest, announced the independence of Bangladesh in the early hours of March 26, which spread across the country through EPR's wireless, telegram-teleprinter and party leaders. However, after the killing of the father of the nation in 1975, this history was distorted.

She said, "A major stood on a drum and blew a flute and just like that Bangladesh became independent! A country does not become independent like this. They (BNP) are still playing that broken record of distorting history."

Prime Minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina said this in the presidential address at a discussion meeting organized by Bangladesh Awami League at the Awami League office in Tejgaon on Wednesday on the occasion of 'Great Independence and National Day-2024'.

She said that Father of the Nation Aihitasik through his March 7 speech prepared the entire nation for freedom and to face any situation. As he did not want to be identified as an aggressor or a separatist earlier, he was making all the preparations step by step along with continuing the non-cooperation movement.

The Prime Minister said that the father of the nation declared independence in the early hours of March 26 when the Pakistani invading forces suddenly started attacking the innocent people on March 25. His declaration of independence was broadcast nationwide on the then EPR (now BGB) wireless network.
