Dhaka, May 12: Munshiganj's Shimulia Ghat continues to be flooded with homebound people on Eid. Although it rained a few times since Tuesday (May 11) evening, people gathered in the ghat area.

Some passengers who arrived at the ghat said that they came to the ghat area after receiving the news that all the ferries were plying on the Shimulia-Banglabazar route. They are returning to the village to share the joy of Eid with their families. However, most of them had to walk long distances to reach the wharf and had to pay several times more for the alternative system.

The manager of Shimulia Ghat said that the ghat was empty at noon. Due to the shortage of vehicles, the ferries took longer than usual to leave. But in the afternoon the scene changed. The influx of homebound people on the wharf continues to grow, which is still continuing.

He added that after the evening, thousands of people are coming to the wharf, ignoring storms and rain. All the ferries in the fleet are plying and each ferry is carrying a huge number of passengers.

Hilal Ahmed, in-charge of Mawa Traffic Police, told Jago News that 30 small vehicles and 70 large vehicles are currently parked at the wharf. In addition, the pressure of homebound people on the ferry has increased.
