Hossaini Dalan Bombing Hussaini Dalan bombing: Two JMB men jailed, six acquitted
Dhaka, March 15: A court has ruled in a case filed in connection with the Hossaini Dalan bomb attack in Old Dhaka. The verdict sentenced the two accused to different terms of imprisonment. The court acquitted the other six as the allegations were not proved. Judge Mojibur Rahman of the Dhaka Special Anti-Terrorism Tribunal pronounced the verdict on Tuesday (March 15).
Arman alias Monir is one of the two convicts. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Kabir Hossain alias Rashed alias Ashif was sentenced to seven years in prison.
The acquitted accused are Omar Farooq Manik, Hafez Ahsan Ullah Mahmud, Shahjalal Mia, Chan Mia, Abu Saeed Russell alias Solaiman alias Salman alias Simon and Rubel Islam alias Sajeeb alias Sumon.
On the night of October 23, 2015, the banned militant group Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) carried out a bomb attack in the area of Hosseini Dalan on the occasion of Holy Ashura. SI Jalal Uddin filed a case with the Chawkbazar police station. Chawkbazar police first investigated the case. The investigation was later transferred to DB.
Following the investigation, DB South Police Inspector Md Shafiuddin Sheikh filed a chargesheet against 10 people in October 2016. The case was then transferred to the 8th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court in Dhaka.
The plaintiff Md. Jalal Uddin testified in the same court after the commencement of the trial on 31 May 2017 by framing charges against the accused. The case was transferred to the special anti-terrorism tribunal on May 14, 2018. Since the transfer, the trial has gained momentum. After coming to the tribunal, the testimony of 10 people was taken.
Police say 13 militants were involved in the attack. Police arrested 10 of them. Three militants died in crossfire during the operation. All the accused in the chargesheet are members of JMB.
The accused in the case are Kabir Hossain, Rubel Islam, Abu Saeed, Arman, Hafeez Ahsan Ullah Masud, Shah Jalal, Omar Farooq, Chan Mia, Zahid Hasan and Masud Rana. Among the accused, Arman, Rubel and Kabir have given confessional statements under section 164 in the court.
According to the case file, Abdullah Baki alias Noman, who was killed in a "gunfight" in January 2016, was the mastermind behind the Hosseini Dalan attack. They met on October 10 before the attack and finalized the plan.
