Dhaka, September 16: Mentioning that BNP founder Ziaur Rahman was involved in the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu and his family on August 15, 1975, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said she wanted to accuse the former in the case.

"I wanted to accuse him in the case. At the time, the secretary said, the deceased could not be accused. I think he should have been accused," she said in her closing remarks of the 14th session of the Eleventh National Assembly on Thursday (September 16).

"There is no doubt that Zia was involved in the assassination of '75. I wanted to accuse him. At that time our Home Secretary was Rezaul Hayat, he said dead people cannot be accused. I think the name should have been there," the Prime Minister said.

"Zia's involvement in the conspiracy has been stated by Farooq-Rashid themselves in a BBC interview. It is mentioned in the book of Anthony Mascarenhas, in the book of Lawrence Lifschultz — how can you deny it?" she asked.
