IGP warns of dire consequences for attempts to sabotage Jan 7 elections

Dhaka, Jan 5: Claiming that a group has planned to sabotage the 12th National Assembly elections Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun has warned of dire consequences for attempts to sabotage the January 7 polls.

He said, "If someone tries to sabotage the elections, the result will not be good. Appropriate legal action will be taken against vandals. Strict action will be taken even if someone takes the advantage of deteriorating law and order situation.”

The IGP said this at a briefing on election security on Friday (January 5). The briefing was held at Wills Little Flower School and College premises in Kakrail of the capital.

The IGP said that in case of emergency, citizens can contact 999 or the concerned police station.

He said, "After the arrest of a Chhatra Dal leader in Magura, information was received about the plan of violence and sabotage. This information has been collected from various sources."

“We have seen that they had a plan, to make loud noise and charge the cocktail to spread fear among people. I hope no one can spread such fear,” the IGP added.
