Inauguration of subway construction in Dhaka tomorrow

Dhaka, February 1: Bangladesh has already entered the metrorail era. It is plying from Agargaon to Uttara. This will be the second metro rail, which will be built underground from the airport to Kamalapur, a 20 km railway line. This is the first underground journey of Metrorail.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the subway construction tomorrow Thursday (February 2). It will be inaugurated at 11 am in the Purbachal New City Project area. The subway is under the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT-1) project. It will be implemented by the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL).

In the meantime, DMTCL has signed an agreement with the contractor for the construction of the metro rail depot in Pitalganj, Narayanganj. The total cost of this project is estimated at 52 thousand 561 crores. Of this, Japanese debt is 39 thousand 450 crores. And the remaining amount will be met from government funds.

According to project sources, the second metro rail will be a combination of aerial and underground routes. 31.24 km long MRT Line-1 will be constructed on two routes. Among these, the railway will run underground from the airport to Kamalapur. It is a 19.87 km long route.

There will be total 12 stations on this route. These are - Airport, Airport Terminal-3, Khilkhet, Yamuna Future Park, New Bazaar, North Badda, Badda, Hatirjheel, Rampura, Malibagh, Rajarbagh and Kamalapur.

And the new Bazar station on the Purbachal route will be underground. After that, it will be 11.36 kilometers by air from New Bazar to Pitalganj in Narayanganj of Purbachal. There will be nine stations on this route.

These are New Bazaar, Jamuna Future Park, Bashundhara, Police Officers Housing Society, Mastul, Purbachal West, Purbachal Centre, Purbachal East, Purbachal Terminal and Pitalganj Depot.

The implementation period of this project is from September 2019 to December 2026. If it is built, eight lakh passengers will be able to travel daily.
