Indian Ocean Conference's 6th session to be held in Dhaka

Dhaka, April 14: Bangladesh and India are going to jointly organize the sixth edition of the Indian Ocean Conference. India Foundation, an internationally renowned research institute affiliated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India, will organize the conference in Dhaka from May 12 to 13.

Director General of Public Diplomacy Division Seheli Sabrin said this at the weekly press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday. She said that holding the conference in Bangladesh is of special importance in view of Bangladesh's partnership with our nearest neighbor India in the regional political arena and the changing geo-political and geo-economic realities.

Since 2015, India Foundation has been regularly organizing this conference called Indian Ocean Conference in various countries with the government of that country. Although the conference is mainly organized around the coastal countries of the Indian Ocean, it discusses various important and relevant issues in the changing global context.

"So far, a total of five conferences have been held in Singapore (2016), Sri Lanka (2017), Vietnam (2018), Maldives (2019) and United Arab Emirates (2021), respectively," she said.

High-level representatives from Bangladesh have participated in the previous sessions: Minister of Foreign Affairs (2016), Minister of Commerce (2017), Minister of Planning (2018), Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (2019), Member of Parliament (2021).

The Director General said that the President of Mauritius has already agreed to participate in the conference. Apart from this, Foreign Ministers of some other countries (Bhutan, Sri Lanka), Vice Ministers of Japan have confirmed their participation in the conference. More details about the participating ministers and guests at other levels will be known closer to the conference.
