International Association of Genocide Scholars proposes recognition of the 1971 genocide

Dhaka, April 26: The International Association of Genocide Scholars (IASG) has adopted a resolution to recognize the brutal massacre of Bengalis by the Pakistani army in 1971 during the Liberation War. Such information was given in a press release sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday night.

According to the notification, the IASG has recently accepted a proposal. The title of the proposal is 'Resolution to Declare the Crimes Committed During 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War as Genocide, Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes'.

The Ministry of External Affairs said that this proposal of IASG is a very important achievement in the way of international recognition of the brutal massacre of the Pakistani army during the Great War of Liberation in 1971.

Bangladesh government is working for the international recognition of genocide during the great liberation war. The notification also informed that the government is determined to continue this effort relentlessly.

IASG started its journey in 1994. It is a global organization. This impartial organization researches various issues related to genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity, the reasons behind them and their consequences. Apart from this, one of the organization's tasks is to advance policy studies on genocide prevention.

Few formal resolutions have so far been adopted at the IASG to recognize genocides that have occurred in different parts of the world. The organization holds a conference every two years. The global organization publishes the journal 'Genocide Studies and Prevention'.
