International Criminal Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Golam Arif Tipu is no more

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 16 March 2024: Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal, Advocate Golam Arif Tipu passed away (Innalillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Raziun). He passed away while undergoing treatment at the capital's LabAid Hospital around 8 am on Friday. The Tribunal's Acting Prosecutor Advocate Syed Haider Ali confirmed the death.

For a long time Golam Arif Tipu was suffering from various ailments related to old age. Recently he became very ill and was admitted to Lab Aid Hospital. He died on Friday morning while undergoing treatment there.

He was a brave freedom fighter and language soldier. In 1952, the Bengali language movement was organized in Rajshahi under his leadership. He served as the joint convener of the Rajshahi region of Rashtrabhasa Sangram Parishad. He was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2019 by the Government of Bangladesh for his special contribution to the language movement. Golam Arif Tipu started his career as a lawyer in 1958. He was elected several times as President of Rajshahi Lawyers Association, Senate and Syndicate member of Rajshahi University and member of Bangladesh Bar Council.

The Chief Justice has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of Golam Arif Tipu. He prayed for the bereaved soul of the deceased and expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family.

Golam Arif Tipu started his career as a lawyer in 1958. He was elected several times as President of Rajshahi Lawyers Association, Senate and Syndicate member of Rajshahi University and member of Bangladesh Bar Council.
