JU Jahangirnagar University's proctor resigns amid agitation
Dhaka, March 19: Proctor ASM Feroze-ul-Hasan has resigned in the face of student agitation over the rape of a housewife in Jahangirnagar University (JAB). He was an Associate Professor in the University's Department of Government and Politics.
An office order signed by University Registrar Abu Hasan on Monday (March 18) confirmed the resignation of Proctor Feroz-ul-Hasan.
Pursuant to the written request of PM Feroz-ul-Hasan, his resignation was accepted and he was relieved from the post of proctor, the order said. Earlier, Associate Professor Feroze was accused of forcing the victim woman to write a letter of acquittal to save Mahmudur Rahman Jani, a newly expelled teacher of the university and recently neglecting responsibility in the rape of a housewife in the campus, covering up a criminal incident in the campus.
After the rape incident, one of the demands of the teachers-students agitating under the banner of 'anti-oppression platform' in the five-point demand was to provide compensation to Proctor Feroz-ul-Hasan and Principal of Mir Musharraf Hossain Hall, Professor Sabbir Alam. The authorities fired the oppressive teacher Mahmudur Rahman Jani in the face of the demands of the agitating teachers and students. However, the agitators kept blocking the administration building with several demands, including the demand for the removal of Proctor Feroze and Principal Prof. Sabbir Alam.
