Special Correspondent, Dhaka, 16 July 2023 : Japan will do the ground handling of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport's third terminal (Third Terminal).

Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority (Babychak) Air Vice Marshal Mofidur Rahman provided this information.

He said, 'Japan has shown interest in ground handling. The government has taken a policy decision to give them this job. They will be given work on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) basis. In this case, the process of determining what kind of terms (conditions) will be given is going on.

Babychak Chairman gave the information at the 'ATJFB Dialogue' at Shahjalal Airport on Saturday. Aviation and Tourism Journalists Forum of Bangladesh organized this dialogue. The program was conducted by the president of the organization, Tanjim Anwar. General Secretary Ziaul Haque Sabuj delivered the welcome speech.

Regarding the purchase of Biman's aircraft, the Babychak chairman said, "Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given instructions to increase the fleet of aircraft and has asked to increase the cargo capacity." This is why the aircraft will be purchased. But whether to buy Airbus or Boeing, it is not yet decided. Biman will choose whoever gives us the best offer. We already have a relationship with Boeing, the Airbus issue has also come up. If Airbus gives a better offer than Boeing, we will go there.

Mofidur Rahman said in response to reporters' questions about Biman's launch of New York flights, "We wanted to launch New York flights by October." However, airlines have to apply for permission to fly. Biman Bangladesh Airlines did not apply on time and the process got delayed. We have informed the airline in writing. They applied late. This process has also been delayed due to Covid. But I am optimistic about the launch of New York flights this year itself.
