Bangladesh Jatiya Party workers-supporters attack third gender candidates
Dhaka, 24 December 2023 : Anwara Islam Rani, an independent candidate of the third gender, was attacked during a public meeting in Rangpur-3 constituency.
Rani alleged that Jatiya Party (Japa) workers-supporters carried out the attack.
The attack took place in Deodoba Barabari Morichtari area of ward number 14 of Rangpur city at 8:30 pm on Friday.
Anwara Islam Rani complained, "Since the allocation of symbols, I have been campaigning according to the rules. From Friday afternoon, after mass gathering in different neighborhoods of Ward 14, in the evening, when I came to Morichitari intersection, two to twenty-five people surrounded me to see me. While talking to them, some workers-supporters of Jatiya Party snatched the hand mic from my hand and started pushing me. After that, they threatened to kill me and chased me away."
Rani also said that the National Party has understood that the people of Rangpur no longer want them.
"The common people will love me and win with huge votes on 7th. So they are attacking me. I also promise that no attack or intimidation will benefit me. I have entered the field for the development of the destiny of the people of Rangpur. I will not be afraid of anyone," he said.
Anwara Islam Rani said that after discussing with her workers-supporters and advisers, she will take legal decisions regarding those involved in the attack.
The total number of voters in this constituency is 4 lakh 94 thousand 768 which consists of Ward No. 9 to 33 of Rangpur Sadar and City Corporation. Among them 2 lakh 47 thousand 294 female voters and 2 lakh 47 thousand 472 male voters and there are two third gender voters.
