Dhaka, 13 June 2023 : The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will work with seven more traffic departments after Ramana to restore order in the road management of the capital Dhaka.

In the meantime, identification of accident-prone areas has started to reduce road accidents in Dhaka city. At the same time, the activities of collecting information and creating public awareness on various issues including the cause of the accident have been started.

JICA has started this program in Ramna Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) at the initial stage. This program will be conducted in seven more traffic sections in phases. JICA has started this activity under Dhaka Road Traffic Safety Project (DRSP) with DMP.

In the third joint coordination committee meeting of DRSP at DMP headquarters on Monday, various issues including identification of accident prone areas came up. In the meeting, the speakers highlighted various challenges of road traffic management in Dhaka city.

At the end of the meeting, Director of DRSP and Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) of DMP. Munibur Rahman told reporters that Dhaka city is a challenging place from the point of view of traffic management. Because there are many vehicles in Dhaka. Some are slow and some are fast.

All motorized and non-motorized vehicles ply here. He said that the type of road in each place in Dhaka is different, the vehicles are also different. As a result, if common people out on the road have a little understanding of traffic laws, it will be good for others as well as their own safety. This program has been started from the school level so that minimum awareness is created among all.

About the benefits of DRSP, he said, the project has three outputs. Implementation of safety education, traffic accident report analysis and traffic enforcement. Basic rules of traffic are traffic safety education. Dhaka city is home to more than two crore people. They are all traffic stakeholders. All but get out on the road and come under traffic management.
