JICA wants to work in Bangladesh with advanced technology-gas meters

Dhaka, July 7, 2023 : Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) wants to work with Bangladesh to increase the capacity of Bangladesh Power Management Institute (BPMI) in manufacturing advanced technology gas-meters.

JICA Executive Senior Vice President Yamada Junichi expressed this interest in a meeting with Minister of State for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid at the Secretariat on Thursday afternoon. This information was informed in the press release of the Ministry of Electricity, Energy and Mineral Resources.

During this time they discussed various issues of mutual interest. Executive Senior Vice President of JICA said that the progress of ongoing projects including Matarbari is satisfactory. There is an opportunity to work together to build the capacity of Bangladesh Power Management Institute in developing advanced technology gas-meters.

While thanking JICA for financing and cooperation in various projects of power and energy sector, the state minister said that Japan is a tested friend of Bangladesh.

They discussed cooperation on energy transition towards carbon neutrality, capacity building of power and energy sector, modernization of gas pipeline system, prepaid gas meters, gas pipeline extension, underground sub-stations.

Nasrul Hamid said that the importance of renewable energy is increasing in the global context. I would like to take a short project on hydrogen fuel. There is also an opportunity to work together on increasing energy efficiency.

At this time, the chief representative of JICA, Tamuhide Ichiguchi, additional secretary of the electricity department. Nurul Alam and Additional Secretary Energy and Mineral Resources Department Shahina Khatun were present.
