JMB terrorist executed in Kashimpur jail

Dhaka, July 18: A 37-year-old JMB (Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen) member identified as Asaduzzaman Panir alias Asad has been hanged at Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur on Thursday (July 15) at 11:01 p.m. Asad was the son of Fazlul Haque Chowdhury of Kanaikarsthan area of Mymensingh's Fulbaria police station.

Md Gias Uddin, senior jail superintendent of Kashimpur Central Jail, said the body was handed over to relatives after the execution of the death sentence by hanging at night.

Hangman Shahjahan carried out the execution. The death was confirmed by Dr. Ashif Rahman Evan, a representative of the Civil Surgeon's Office. Also present during the execution were Deputy Inspector General of Prisons Touhidul Islam, Additional District Magistrate of Gazipur Nasreen Sultana, Civil Surgeon Dr Khairuzzaman, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime North) Zahir Hasan and others.

According to jail sources, Asaduzzaman Panir assisted in the bomb blast on December 8, 2005 as an active member of the JMB in Netrokona. The bombing killed eight people and injured many more. In this incident, several cases were filed against JMB member Asaduzzaman Panir alias Asad under the Explosives Act. The court sentenced him to death on February 17, 2008 in a case filed at Netrokona police station.
