Dhaka, May 20: Prothom Alo senior reporter Rozina Islam's bail hearing order in the case filed under the 'Theft' and Official Secrets Act is set for next Sunday. The court also set a date for the presentation of important information of the state.

Journalist Rozina's bail hearing was held at the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Baki Billa's virtual court on Thursday (May 20). Lawyers Ehsanul Haque Samaji, Aminul Gani Titu, Jyotirmoy Barua, Prashant Kumar Karmakar and Ashraful Alam appeared for Rozina. On the other hand, Hemayet Uddin Hiron opposed the state bail.

Following the hearing, the court set next Sunday for the presentation of important information of the state and order for bail. Shahbagh Police Station General Registration Officer Sub-Inspector (SI) Nizam Uddin confirmed the matter.

Journalist Rozina's lawyer Ehsanul Haque Samaji has said that justice was delayed as no bail order was issued today. "The case is bailable. We hoped Rozina would be granted bail today. Justice was delayed because she was not granted bail today," he said.

Earlier on Tuesday (May 18), the court rejected Rozina Islam's remand application and ordered her to be sent to jail. At the same time, the court fixed Thursday for her bail hearing. Shahbagh Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Arifur Rahman Sardar produced her in court that morning and applied for a five-day remand. On the other hand, her lawyer Prashant Kumar Karmakar applied for her bail. At the end of the hearing, the judge rejected her remand application. He also set a bail hearing on Thursday.

Rozina's lawyer Prashant Kumar Karmakar then applied for her treatment. The court ordered for his treatment as per the jail rules. She was then taken in a prison van to the Kashimpur Central Women's Jail in Gazipur. She is currently there.

A case was filed against Rozina Islam at Shahbagh Police Station on Monday night (May 17). Dr. Md. Shibbir Ahmed Usmani, Deputy Secretary of the Health Services Department, filed the case on the basis of the complaint of the Ministry of Health.

Journalist Rozina Islam was brought to Shahbagh Police Station around 9pm on Monday after a long detention at the Secretariat. The ministry has accused her of taking pictures of important government documents on his mobile phone without permission and hiding some other documents.
