Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 5 August 2023: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, "The father of the nation has struggled for freedom in this country. We have achieved independence through that struggle. After independence, the father of the nation took many steps for the development of sports in this country. Our family has always been involved in sports. Kamal always played a leading role in sports and cultural activities."
She said these things at the 74th birth anniversary celebration and Sheikh Kamal National Sports Council Award-2023 ceremony of martyred freedom fighter Captain Sheikh Kamal at Osmani Memorial Auditorium on Saturday (August 5). State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell presided over the event.
The Prime Minister said, "This month is the month of our mourning. Kamal's birthday is this month. Kamal is my younger brother, we are two brothers and sisters. We were playing partners, movement and struggle together. People will always remember his contribution to the sports field of Bangladesh."
Addressing the rich, the Prime Minister said, "You will donate to this foundation (National Sports Council) for the welfare of sportspersons. Because, many players fall ill, they do not have access to treatment, many are in financial crisis. We have tried our best. When I was not the Prime Minister. Still trying and trying now."
She also said, "Many of our poor families' sons and daughters win gold. Many disabled people show more success. It is no small matter that they bring gold medals for Bangladesh in various fields. We support them in that field. So that they can go, Sports can participate. Sports cannot be played until a very old age."
"What will be their next life? That's why I will say, those of us who have done many things in business, banking and insurance, the private sector has become very strong, if there are their own sports organizations or those who are connected with sports, if jobs are provided, They can also bring the reputation of that institution."
The head of government said, "If the girls of Bangladesh can conquer Everest, sports can set such a bright example, then the reputation of Bangladesh will increase. Our children are bringing enough reputation even through limited opportunities. We need to sponsor them to increase the reputation. In the field of cultural practices and sports. Just as government patronage is needed, those in the private sector also need patronage. Without patronage, they cannot develop. There is a lot of talent hidden all over the country. Find them. They will brighten the face of the world."
