King of Bhutan inspects proposed economic zone at Kurigram

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 30 March 2024: Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck visited the proposed Special Economic Zone in Kurigram. During the visit he witnessed the geographical layout of the region.

At this time, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Muhammad Ali Arafat, Member of Parliament for Kurigram-2 Constituency Dr. Hamidul Haque Khandkar, Member of Parliament for Kurigram-4 Constituency Biplab Hasan Palash, Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) Sheikh Yusuf Harun, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saidul Arif and Superintendent of Police Al Asad Md. Mahfuzul Islam were present.

After visiting the proposed economic zone of Kurigram on Thursday, the king of Bhutan left Bangladesh for Bhutan by road through Sonahat land port of Bhurungamari upazila.

It is to be noted that in the joint initiative of Bangladesh and Bhutan government, for the establishment of the proposed special economic zone based on G-T-UZ in Kurigram, the area for the economic zone has been determined along the Kurigram-Bhurungamari road to the east of Dharla Bridge. District administration has already handed over 133 acres of land to Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA). Besides, another 86 acres of land is in process of acquisition.
