Dhaka, October 3: Today is the third day of the five-day Durgotsava, Mahashtami and Sandhi Puja. On this occasion, on Monday (October 3), the marquees of the capital were crowded with pilgrims and devotees. Especially the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission at Gopibagh were crowded, because today is also Kumari Puja.

The main attraction of Mahashtami, 'Kumari Puja', was not organized for the last two years due to the Covid pandemic. But this time the puja is celebrated as the situation is under control. Kumari Puja has been held on a small scale in some parts of the country.

On the day of Mahashtami today, Monday at 11 am, the puja started at Ramakrishna Mutt in Gopi Bagh of the capital. Devotees worship a maiden as a goddess by imagining the form of a pure woman. This time there was a huge crowd of devotees in Kumari Puja. This year's maiden name is Devpriya Chakraborty Shrestha. She is six years old. She blessed the devotees during the Kumari Puja. She said, "Blessings to all".

It is known that Kumari Puja starts at 11 am at Ramakrishna Mission. Kumari Puja is organized on Ashtami to honor Devi Durga. Kumari Puja begins with 16 instruments of worship. Through this, everyone will respect women.

According to Hindu scriptures, usually 1 to 16 years unmarried virgin girls are worshiped as Goddess Durga during the Kumari Puja.

According to Puranas, Goddess Durga appeared before the gods as a maiden. Carrying out that custom, Kumari Puja is organized in the morning of Mahashtami. Kumari Puja is the biggest attraction of Mahashtami. Where a maiden is bathed early in the morning on Mahashtami and dressed in new clothes. She is decorated with vermilion on her forehead, colour on her feet and flowers in her hands. Then the maiden is seated on a well-decorated seat and worshiped.
