Dhaka, November 6: A fire broke out at the Pasha Bhaban on Badsha Mia Road in Matuail, Demra in the capital after a long blaze for 10 hours. One hundred and fifty fighters from 16 units were pressed into service.

At 2.15 am on Friday (November 6), Mahfuz Riben, a duty officer in the control room of the Fire Service and Civil Defense, said the fire was under control.

He said the fire was brought under control at two in the morning. Meanwhile, the owner of the building Jalil Pasha said that he has spent at least Tk 15 crore for the construction of this building.

The fire that broke out on the sixth floor of the building burned three to nine floors. About Rs 200 crore worth of LED lights imported from China were kept on these floors. All of which have been burnt to ashes.

Regarding the reason for the delay in extinguishing the fire, Director General (DG) of the Fire Service Brigadier General Sajjad Hossain said the entire building was unplanned. There was no place in the vicinity. Almost the entire 10-storey building was full of combustible material. There was no working environment to put out the fire. Just a narrow road. Canals on both sides of that road. The crane has been raised by risking the ladder. Turning the crane is not going to work. Nothing but cranes are going to be used here. As a result, it took time to control the fire.

The fire broke out on the sixth floor of the multi-storey building called Pasha Tower at around 5 pm. Before that, the workers of that floor were on leave around 4 pm. At one stage the intensity of the fire increased and it spread to the upper 10 floors. It was initially learned that only six floors were stocked with electronics products including lights.

It was later learned that the entire building was the warehouse of an organization called Energy Lighting Limited. Which caused the fire to quickly spread to another floor.

The building owner says LED lights imported from China were kept in the warehouse. There were goods worth about 200 crore rupees. All of which have been burnt to ashes. However, no casualties have been reported so far.

The fire service says the sixth floor of the building was used as an energy light warehouse. That's where the fire started. However, it is being speculated that it is from an electrical short circuit. Due to the large amount of combustible material, the fire immediately spread to other floors.
