Dhaka, May 13: The period of the ongoing lockdown to prevent coronavirus (Covid-19) infection is being extended for another 7 days i.e. till 23rd May. State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain said on Thursday (May 13) that a notification to extend the term would be issued on May 16.

An eight-day strict lockdown started from 6 am on April 14 to prevent Covid-19 infection. The three-point lockdown was later extended. That period will end at midnight on May 16 (Sunday).

The Minister of State for Public Administration said, "Tests for restrictions are becoming less and less identifiable. It's like science. When we tightened up, our public health experts said on the 15th of last month that it would continue to decline in the first week of May. We have to open shops, in which case we see a lot of people going out. It is not a matter of wearing 100 percent masks. It is one thing. Another thing is we have to keep in mind the Indian variant, the situation in the neighboring country. Not wearing it, going to a number of people's homes - these are the things we are thinking about."

The state minister said, "In that case, our plan is to wear 100 percent masks. People come from different places, including district cities, city corporations, municipalities where crowds are high. We have the idea of wearing 100 per cent masks in these places of connectivity."

"Those who wear masks will be saved, but those who do not wear masks are at risk. So after Eid, the infection may increase again on 20/22. We are worried about the situation at that time," he said. "We don't know if those who don't wear masks will run around with oxygen cylinders."
