Dhaka, October 22: The low pressure over the Bay of Bengal has strengthened into a pronounced low pressure. In this situation, the seaports have been asked to monitor carefully till further instructions.

Bangladesh Meteorological Department informed this information on Friday (October 21) evening. The organization also said that it will start to affect the coastal areas of Bangladesh in the next two days. Meanwhile, meteorological organizations of various countries including India have said that the low pressure created near the Andaman Islands may turn into a cyclone. If it becomes a cyclone it will be called 'Sitrang'. It is the name given by Thailand.

The Indian Meteorological Department also said Sitrang may cross the Khulna-Barisal coast of India's West Bengal and Bangladesh by next Tuesday (October 25). Due to various natural causes, a region of centrifugal wind or low pressure is created in some part of the sea. Gradually this stormy area gathers energy (increasing wind speed) to become a clear low pressure, low pressure, deep depression and finally a cyclone. According to the Meteorological Department, the clear depression is the area of gusty winds of 31 to 40 km per hour. A low pressure is a gusty area with wind speed between 41 and 50 km per hour. In case of deep depression, the wind speed is between 51 and 61 kmph. If the wind speed is between 62 and 88 km/h in a stormy area, it is called a cyclone.

Bangladesh Meteorological Department meteorologist Md. Bajlur Rashid said on Friday evening that the low pressure in the Andaman Sea and the adjacent South-East Bay of Bengal is staying in the same area in the form of a distinct low pressure. It may condense further and become a depression.

In the next two days, the weather conditions in the coastal areas of Bangladesh may deteriorate, he said, "The weather conditions of the whole country may deteriorate in the next five days."

According to the latest marine weather conditions, the Directorate has asked Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra seaports to be carefully monitored until further instructions.

Fishing boats and trawlers operating in North Bay of Bengal have been asked to proceed with caution. Also they have been asked not to venture into the deep sea by the Meteorological Department.
