Dhaka, 10 June 2023 : Southwest Monsoon has advanced to Chittagong and Sylhet divisions.

A low pressure has formed over the north-east Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas.

Giving this information, the Directorate of Meteorology says that within the next 24 hours from 6 pm on Friday, many places in Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions and some places in Dhaka, Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions may experience temporary gusts of wind or rain with thunder.

Along with this, there may be moderate to heavy rainfall at some places. A mild heat wave is moving over Rajshahi, Pabna and Chuadanga districts and may subside. Day temperatures may increase slightly and night temperatures may drop slightly across the country.

In the forecast, the department said, the southwest monsoon may spread over the rest of the country in the next five days. Meanwhile, from 6 pm on Thursday to 6 pm on Friday, it rained in all the eight divisions of the country. Tangail received the highest rainfall of 84 mm. It has been raining intermittently in Dhaka since morning. According to the Meteorological Department, 47 km of rain has fallen in Dhaka.

Chuadanga recorded the highest temperature in the country at 37 degrees Celsius on Friday. The maximum temperature in Dhaka was 32.1 degrees Celsius.

According to the maritime warning, as deep convective clouds continue to form over North Bay of Bengal, gale force winds may blow over North Bay of Bengal and adjacent coastal areas and sea ports of Bangladesh. Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra seaports have been asked to show local warning signal number 3.

All fishing boats and trawlers operating in North Bay of Bengal have been asked to proceed cautiously close to the coast until further notice.

The weather forecast for the country's inland river ports till 1:00 p.m. is Rangpur, Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogra, Tangail, Mymensingh, Faridpur, Dhaka, Jessore Kushtia, Khulna, Barisal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Comilla, Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, and Sylhet. Showers/thundershowers with gusty winds of 45-60 km/hr from south or south-east over the region. The river ports in these areas have been asked to display warning signal number 1.
