Lower court to run virtually from today

Dhaka, 23 January 2022: Judges of all lower (judicial) courts and tribunals of the country will be able to conduct judicial proceedings in a virtual manner if necessary in the present upward corona situation in Bangladesh.

However, the testimony process has to be completed in the physical presence of the judge.

The directive will be effective in all civil and criminal courts of the country from Sunday (January 23).

On Saturday (January 22) under the direction of Chief Justice Hasan Fayez Siddiqui, the Registrar General of the Supreme Court. Such information has been given in the notification signed by Ali Akbar.

In the case of corona infection, all lower civil and criminal courts of the country and judges of the tribunal may apply in civil and criminal cases / cases in physical presence or by the court using the Information Technology Act, 2020 and the information issued by this court. Will conduct all types of judicial activities through virtual presence.

It further said that all kinds of cases can be filed in the lower civil and criminal courts and tribunals in the presence of the body by taking necessary protective measures. The judge will complete the testimony in physical presence. Individuals / persons accused in criminal cases may file a surrender application in the presence of physical criminal courts and tribunals.

The District and Sessions Judge / Metropolitan Sessions Judge and the Chief Judicial Magistrate / Chief Metropolitan Magistrate will take necessary steps in consultation with the President and General Secretary of the concerned District Bar Association to ensure social and physical distance and take protective measures while complying with the hygiene rules.

The notice states that there is no obligation to wear a gown in the conduct of judicial proceedings in a virtual manner, adding that if there is any problem in complying with the order, the Supreme Court's direction can be sought if necessary and the order will remain in force till further orders.
